Welcome to the Insect Study Merit Badge!  Have you always been itching to learn about insects?  Now is your chance to dive in.  This merit badge will help you learn how insects differ from other animals, the different body parts and life cycles of insects and observe many insects in their natural habitat.  You will also have a chance to create a scrapbook detailing all of your findings during the course of this merit badge.  In addition to all of the details about bugs, you will also learn about different careers surrounding the study of insects.  This is one merit badge you will not want to miss out on.   

Some requirements will take more time to complete:

4a - Observe 20 different live species of insects in their habitat.

4b - Make a scrapbook of the 20 insects you observe in 4a.

7 - Raise an insect through complete metamorphosis from its larval stage to its adult stage.

8 - Observe an ant colony or a beehive.

* Scouts will be required to provide their own scrapbook for identification and also obtain their own catipillar for metamorphosis research.
